DARIEN, Conn. – This weekend you can learn how Darien journalists cover the news in town, take part in the YWCA’s Stand Against Racism, and help clean up litter. Here’s a rundown of events in Darien this weekend.

Friday, April 27

Spring Boutique: 9 a.m. The Darien Community Association continues its annual Spring Boutique.

Stand Against Racism: 9:30 a.m. First Selectman Jayme Stevenson will read a proclamation in support of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk's Stand Against Racism at Town Hall.

Darien media discussion: 9:30 a.m. Journalists from The Daily Darien, the Darien Times, the Darien News, the Darien Patch and Channel 79 will take part in a panel discussion on local media at Town Hall, hosted by the League of Women Voters.

Arbor Day celebration: 2 p.m. The Darien Community Association celebrates Arbor Day with the planting of a red oak presented by Almstead Tree, Shrub and Lawn Care. An instructional presentation on tree planting will follow.

Indian Film: 6:30 p.m. The Darien Library hosts a screening of “Monsoon Wedding.” This romantic comedy from India tells the story of a woman preparing herself for an arranged marriage. Another screening will follow at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 28

Town Clean Up: 8 a.m. The Darien Chamber of Commerce hosts a town-wide Beautification and Clean Up as part of its annual Darien Going for Green initiative. Volunteers will meet at Upper Crust Bakery and Café, and then groups will be assigned areas of town to clear of litter.

Cocktail Party: 5:30 p.m. The Darien Community Association will host a “Spring in the Garden” cocktail party featuring live music from Darien teen EJ Couloucoundis, an open bar and fine foods. Entry is $50, with all proceeds going towards the DCA’s scholarship fund.

Sunday, April 29

Race Against Racism: 7:15 a.m. The YWCA Darien/Norwalk hosts its brand-new road race as part of its Stand Against Racism. The five-mile course begins and ends at Cherry Lawn Park. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m. Entry is $40, with all proceeds going to the YWCA’s Job Search Support Program.

Irish Dancing at the Darien Library: 2 p.m. The Library’s Community Room will be transformed into a dance hall as the Pender-Keady Academy of Irish Dance performs a variety of dances. The performance will be followed by a talk about the history of Irish dance.
