What's Happening in Darien This Weekend

DARIEN, Conn. – Among the events this weekend are the opening of the annual Darien Art Show, featuring hundreds of local artists, and the reopening of Weed Beach after renovations.

Friday, June 1

Classic Movies : 2 to 4 p.m. The Darien Community Association hosts its last classic movie for now, with a screening of “The Philadelphia Story” starring Cary Grant, James Stewart and Katharine Hepburn. Admission is free. Darien Community Association, 274 Middlesex Road.

“Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” screening : 6:30 and 8:45 p.m. The Darien Library hosts two screenings this film, starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy. It tells the story of a disgraced British spy who is rehired by his old government when it fears the British Intelligence Service has been compromised by Soviet spies. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.

Darien Art Show Opening Night : 7 p.m. The Darien Arts Center hosts the work of hundreds of local artists both young and old for the 54th Annual Darien Art Show. Darien Arts Center, 2 Renshaw Road.

Saturday, June 2

Darien High School Jazz Ensemble : 5 p.m. The Darien High School Jazz Ensemble will celebrate the start of summer with a concert. This event features BYOB cocktails, though glass containers are not allowed. Weed Beach.

Sunday, June 3

Weed Beach Opening : 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Darien celebrates the reopening of Weed Beach after the construction project. This event will feature demonstrations, games, music and more. This event was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved due to the weather forecast.

A Little Jazz Mass : 10 to 11 a.m. The St. Luke’s Choir will sing A Little Jazz Mass, a traditional choral jazz accompanied by jazz piano, percussion and bass, as well as singing by the Donald Vega Trio of New York. After the Mass, St. Luke’s will hold the annual parish picnic outside. Saint Luke’s Parish, 1864 Post Road.
