What's Happening in Darien This Weekend

DARIEN, Conn. – Among the events in Darien this weekend are the Carver Foundation’s annual Child of America gala and the Darien Collectors’ Car Show. Here’s what’s happening this weekend:

Friday, June 15

Child of America Gala : 6 p.m. The Carver Foundation of Norwalk will hold its 11th annual Child of America Gala, featuring keynote speaker Joe Scarborough of MSNBC. Awards will be given to Miami-Dade County Public School Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and Darien’s Dave Campbell. Auction items include a trip to the London Olympics. Wee Burn Country Club, 410 Hollow Tree Ridge Road.

“One for the Money” Screening : 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The Darien Library hosts two screenings of “One for the Money,” starring Katherine Heigl as a woman who takes a job working for a bail bondsman and has to track down a man who broke her heart. Rated PG-13. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.

Saturday, June 16

Accelerated Safe Powerboat Handling Course : 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Noroton Yacht Club hosts this hands-on, on-the-water course for anyone who has taken a classroom boating course but needs experience to safely operate a motorboat. Students will learn about engines and electrical systems, docking, maneuvering, starting procedures and rescuing someone in the water. Noroton Yacht Club.

Click it for Cassie Softball Tournament : 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Geary family hosts the fourth annual Click it for Cassie Softball Tournament to raise money for seatbelt safety awareness. Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk.

Sunday, June 17

Darien Collectors’ Car Show : 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 120 classic cars will be on display for this annual event. Come see some beautiful vintage rides and vote for your favorite. Tilley Pond Park.
