A car accident in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop on Heights Road in Darien landed a woman in jail last Wednesday. A woman from Wilton was making a left turn into a parking spot when Anna Salaam, 39, of Warwick, N.Y., allegedly tried to pass her on the left.
The two cars collided, causing minor damage. The Wilton woman, who had her 3-year-old daughter in her car, told police that Salaam made her nervous and was taking multiple pictures of her daughter. At one point, Salaam leaned into the car and made a crude hand gesture, police said. When police arrived, they told Salaam to go to her car while they interviewed the Wilton woman.
Salaam had to be told five times, police said, each time refusing and getting louder. She also began taking pictures of the officer and the patrol car. When she refused again, police arrested her on a breach of peace charge. At the police station, she continued to be uncooperative and was charged with refusal to be fingerprinted. Salaam eventually calmed down and cooperated, police said. She was released on $50 bond, a low amount because she is the caregiver for an elderly woman and police said they did not want to cause complications. She will appear in court March 30.
Also from the police blotter:
Someone left the Noroton Citgo station last Monday without paying for $45 worth of gas. Attendants said a woman in a small black Nissan Versa attempted to pay at the pump with her credit card. When it was refused, she drove off, attendants said. Her car had a temporary New Jersey registration, which police did not have on file. When they contacted New Jersey police, they learned the car had been reported stolen from the Tenafly Auto Mall in New Jersey.
