Barbara Earle, 89, Of Darien, Co-Founder, Person-to-Person

DARIEN, Conn. - Barbara Earle of Darien died Dec. 10. She was 89.

Earle was born to Margaretta and Gordon Aymar, in New York City and grew up in Darien. She attended The Thomas School, Barnard College and Julliard School of Music. She co-founded Person-to-Person, the Connecticut-based volunteer organization that helps those in need. At age 58, she earned her college degree, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin/Oshkosh.

Earle is survived by her daughters, Penryhn Cook and Barbara Ballard; sons, David, John and Gordon; sister, Carol Armstrong; 11 grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her brother, Gordon Aymar, Jr.; and husband, Harry Earle.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 17, 2015, at The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 4 Lyme St., (corner of Lyme Street and Ferry Road) Old Lyme. A reception will follow the service.
