George John Kelsey Jr., 78, Darien Native, Plumber, Dockmaster

VERO BEACH, Fla. - George John Kelsey Jr., a native of Darien, died Sunday, Dec. 29. He was 78.

Kelsey was the son of George Sr. and Margaret Kelsey. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and was on duty in Philadelphia.

Upon returning to civilian life, he began a career in the plumbing business, working first for Flaherty Plumbing & Heating in Darien before starting his own business, Fairmead Plumbing & Heating Inc. After retiring from his plumbing career, he served as dockmaster for the Darien Boat Club for many years.

Kelsey is survived by his wife, Elisabeth "Lisa" Kelsey of Vero Beach; sister, Joan Kelsey Simonoff of Tustin, Calif.; son, Gregory Kelsey of Brookfield; daughter, Jennifer Kelsey of Fort Collins, Colo.; three nieces; three grandchildren; and friend, Victoria Batha. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Carole; and son, Matthew.

Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at St. John's Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien.
