Jean Pierson, 93, Of Darien

DARIEN, Conn. – Jean "Babby" Stringer Pierson of Darien and Delray Beach, Fla., died  Aug. 22 at Meadow Ridge Health Center in Redding. She was 93.

She was born June 12, 1919, to McNeil Seymour and Louise Warren Stringer, and was raised in St. Paul, Minn. Pierson attended Summit School and graduated from Central High School in 1937.

She then attended Pine Manor Junior College in Wellesley, Mass., before moving back to St. Paul where she held a variety of jobs, including telephone operator at the Minnesota Federal Savings and Loan.

In the late 1950s, she was reintroduced to John Pierson, an old family friend. They were married on May 21, 1960. Shortly after their wedding, she started an interior decorating business.

She loved flowers, travel, politics, anything patriotic, especially the American flag, and playing bridge. Most important though were her family and friends. Whether in St. Paul, Delray Beach, Westport or Darien, Pierson covered every surface with photographs of those she loved.

Pierson is survived by her husband; two children, John Jay (Jennifer) Pierson Jr., of Denver, Colo., and Julia Pierson (Michael) Mombello, of Westport; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anne Warren Stringer Smith, of Dallas, Texas.

She was predeceased by two brothers, McNeil Seymour Stringer Jr. and Warren Stringer.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, at Christ and Holy Trinity Church in Westport. As a special tribute to Pierson, the family asks that attendants consider wearing bright colors instead of traditional black. Harding Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF, 200 Connecticut Ave., Suite 4E, Norwalk, CT 06854.
