DARIEN, Conn. – Jean Wilson Tharp, 84, a longtime resident of Darien and a former Rowayton resident, died Monday, Feb. 23.

Born Aug. 5, 1930, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late John Marion and Mary Rooney Wilson.

Tharp was a former teacher with the Weston Board of Education.

She was a longtime parishioner of Church of St. Thomas More.

She was very active with the Darien Community Association and was president in 1999 and 2000. She was also very involved in the Darien Community Association's Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, Carey E. Tharp Jr. of Darien; one son, Carey E. Tharp III of New Haven; one daughter, Janet (Thomas) Lucas of Darien; one sister, Janet (Sister Stephanie OSU) Wilson of the Bronx; and two grandchildren.

One brother, John M. Wilson Jr., is deceased.

Calling hours will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Church of St. Thomas More, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien.

Burial will follow in the St. John Cemetery, Norwalk.
