John J. Boland, Of Darien, World War II Veteran

DARIEN, Conn. -- John J. Boland, resident of Darien and former resident of Rowayton, died on May 30, 2015. He was 90 years old.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1924, in Jersey City to John J. and Mary P. Boland. He received a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.

He was in the U.S. Navy as a signalman second class in World War II, serving from June 1, 1943 to April, 14, 1946 on the USS Melucta in the Pacific. 

He had a career in rental management and commercial real estate development.

He is survived by his four children, John J. Boland and wife, Barbara of Norwalk; Susan B. Sullivan and husband, William, of Darien; Robert T. Boland and wife, Susan, of Overland Park, Ky; and Melissa B. Turner and husband, Tony, of Riverside; and 13 grandchildren.

Boland was predeceased by his wife, Jean Boland; a daughter, Debra B. Eccles; and a son, Bruce W. Boland. 

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road in Darien on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John’s RC Church on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children of Fallen Patriots Fund, www.fallenpatriots.org.
