DARIEN, Conn. – Kevin P. Murphy, a 27-year Darien resident, died on March 4. He was 55.
Born on March 18, 1957, he was the son of Patricia D. Murphy and the late Vincent B. Murphy Jr. of Far Hills, N.J.
Murphy was a Managing Director at Brooks, Houghton & Co., Inc., an investment and merchant banking firm in New York City. He received a BS degree from Yale University and a Master of Management from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
A loving husband, father of five, and brother, Murphy was an accomplished equestrian who enjoyed show jumping, polo and field hunting. He was also an accomplished tennis player and he planned to run the New York City Marathon for the third time in November.
Murphy was an avid history buff, reading and recounting stories of the Revolutionary and Civil wars. He was also a devout Catholic, attended Mass regularly and served as a catechism teacher at St. Thomas More Church in Darien. He previously served on the Diocese of Bridgeport Catholic School Board. He was a member of the Yale Club in New York City.
Murphy is survived by his wife Jamey and their five children, Cameron, Haley, Kevin, Jr. ("Kip"), Kendall and Tim. He is also survived by his five siblings, Vincent Murphy III of Newtown, Pa., Patricia Stuebe of Rye, N.Y., Daniel Murphy of Darien, Michaela Hoag of Atherton, Calif., and Karen Murphy of Far Hills, N.J., and more than 20 nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien, on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
