NORWALK, Conn. — Longtime Rowayton resident Gerald “Jerry” Iver Pace died Saturday night surrounded by his loving family. He was 60.

Pace was born on May 1, 1956, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Gordon and Elizabeth Pace. He earned a bachelor's in psychology from SUNY New Paltz, and a master's in psychology from Long Island University.

At 6-foot-5, Pace's impressive stature was matched by his abundant capacity for kindness, gentleness, generosity and humor.

His compassion for others found lifelong expression in his work. For 35 years, Pace served as a psychologist in several branches of New York State’s Office of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.

His greatest joy was spending vacation time with his wife, Karen, and sons Kevin and Jimmy. Pace also loved to sing, and shared his talents by singing in the choir at the Rowayton United Methodist Church.

In addition to Karen, his wife of 25 years, and his sons, Kevin and Jimmy, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Frances O’Connor; his brother Ronald Pace; his aunt Dorothy Dietz; and his cousins Anna, Christian and Lisa.

A memorial service will be held Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Rowayton at 210 Rowayton Ave.

In lieu of flowers, his friends have established the Pace Family Memorial Fund to help support educational expenses. Donations may be sent to Fairfield County Bank, 2 McKinley St., Rowayton, CT 06853.
