Tineke ten Broeke, 82, Longtime Darien Resident

DARIEN, Conn. - Tineke ten Broeke, a resident of Darien since 1971, died July 21. She was 82.

ten Broeke was born Nov. 11, 1930 on the island of Java in Indonesia, formerly the Dutch East Indies. She attended boarding school and lived in Sumatra, Indonesia. She attended university in The Netherlands and received her degree from the University of Amsterdam. After her marriage she emigrated with her husband to the United States in 1957 and together became citizens. They lived in Palos Verdes Estates, California until 1971 when they moved to Darien.

She was a member of the Darien community, president of the Darien Newcomers Club, the DCA Garden Club and the Darien YWCA. She also coached the Darien High School Girls junior varsity tennis team.

Ten Broeke is survived by her husband, Klaas E. ten Broeke; daughters, Trudie Larrabee and Laura Rumbough who live in Darien and Middlebury, Vt., respectively with their husbands Ben Larrabee and Doug Rumbough; four grandchildren; sister, Ankie ter Haar; and niece and nephew who live in The Netherlands.

A private ceremony for the family is being planned.
