William Wiley Evans, 87, Former Darien Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. - William Wiley Evans "Skip" of Stamford died Sept. 24. He was 87.

Evans was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, to William W. Evans Sr. and Viola R. Evans. He spent his formative years in Bronxville, N.Y. He joined the US Navy following Pearl Harbor and served in Submarine Service. Following service, he studied forestry at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. and completed a degree in Business Administration at New York University. He continued his higher education at Fordham University where he received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence. He was employed by American Standard and Carborundum Company as a senior executive for marketing and sales, which gave him and his family the opportunity to live in France, Lewiston, N.Y., Alexandria, Va., and Darien. During his later years, he resided in Greenwich and Stamford.

Evans is survived by his children, William W Evans III of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Robert L Evans of Stamford, David D. Evans of Norwalk and Richard R. Evans of Seymour; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and wife, Ann C. Evans.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Union Memorial Church, 58 Church St., Stamford.
