To the editor:

During the week of Nov. 17, the Thriving Youth Task Force, in partnership with the Darien Public Schools will be administering the third Search Institute Survey.

The survey was administered in 2008 and 2011 and is designed to collect a broad range of data concerning adolescent experiences. The results will be used to help determine how our families, schools and community can create an environment that guides our youth in becoming healthy, caring and responsible individuals.

Since 2008, the Town of Darien and the Darien Public Schools have fostered a strong and positive relationship with Darien's Thriving Youth Task Force (TYTF). The TYTF is a coalition of students, parents, school representatives, town staff, elected officials, community organizations and service providers who are dedicated to addressing asset development and at-risk behaviors in our children. This youth-focused partnership, created by the Community Fund of Darien, maintains its strength through the support and cooperation of professionals and parents alike. Through anonymous, multiple-choice questions, the survey gives us a window into the experiences of our youth, including their behaviors, thoughts, and attitudes about their world. This invaluable feedback creates an opportunity for an open dialogue between our students and those adults in our community who are responsible for guiding their social, emotional and educational well-being. As town leaders and educators, we support the work of the TYTF. We invite you to learn more about the Thriving Youth Task Force and share in the vision of promoting healthy and responsible young adults.
