Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Town of Fairfield, we wish to publicly share our deep admiration and appreciation for all who participated in the tremendous success of in our historic townwide food drive.

A community joining together to mark any event, especially the 375th year of our settlement, through service to others is a unique occasion meriting much praise, and one which will set an example for all other towns.

How fortunate this community is that through the extraordinary hard work of over 600 volunteers and the countless who donated food or funds, hundreds of local families will, over the next many months, enjoy so many meals under their own roofs, and our service men and women overseas will be reminded that we value their sacrifice.

Those individuals who participated and those who enlisted their friends and neighbors have our sincere thanks. We especially acknowledge the hard work of our churches, synagogues, public and private schools, businesses, civic organizations and clubs which collected, packed and delivered thousands of pounds of food.

Many talk about the ills of the world, but few act. Those who engaged in this effort directly benefited our neighbors who are hungry in their homes. These labors lead in turn to our 375th Food Drive’s remarkable achievement.

Please be assured of our gratitude for your help and the appreciation of those whose lives this town service project touched.

Once again, our residents have proven that the true greatness of Fairfield is the compassion of its people.

Very truly yours,

Mike Tetreau First Selectman

Daniel F. Caruso Judge of Probate
