Residents of a West Avenue home called police to report a burglary Friday evening. The residents said they had left their home at about 11:45 a.m. that morning and returned at about 9:45 p.m. to find the house ransacked, police said.
The items stolen included assorted jewelry with a total estimated value of $100,000. About $2,000 in cash and a collection of 100 silver coins worth a total of $1,000 were also missing, according to the police report.
The residents told police that they had let someone in to use the bathroom before leaving for the day. A window in the same bathroom was found unlocked after the burglary, with the screen pulled up, police said. The home’s back door was also open when the homeowners returned home, according to the police report.
