At 4:30 p.m. Friday, the man walked into the Darien police station on Hecker Avenue and asked for directions to New Jersey, police said.
As an officer tried to give him directions, he noticed the man was having trouble comprehending the instructions. The officer checked the National Crime Information Center and discovered that the man had been reported missing from East Orange, N.J., earlier in the day.
Police made contact with the man's daughter, who said he had disappeared the previous day.
She came from Clifton, N.J., to pick up her father, who waited in the police lobby until she arrived. A friend also came to take his car home.
Police said the man did not require any medical attention.
