DARIEN, Conn. -- Bomb-sniffing dogs were called to Darien Town Hall last week after a threatening letter was found on the ground, police said.

An employee was vacuuming the front entrance of Town Hall at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, when he found a folded piece of paper on the ground that read "Every 1 will die," according to police reports. The employee told police that the letter had not been there when he went outside to take the flags down from the flagpole at 4:30 p.m. The letter was handwritten, police said.

Police spoke with the employee and with First Selectman Jayme Stevenson, who told them that there were no controversial issues in Town Hall that would warrant such a letter. MTA bomb-sniffing dogs were brought in to sweep the building as a precaution. After nothing was found, the decision was made to open Town Hall for a meeting that night, police said.

The matter remained under investigation, police said.
