DARIEN, Conn. -- A number of purses were stolen from cars during a series of smash-and-grab burglaries at Cherry Lawn Park in Darien last week, police said.
Police received a report on Oct. 31 at around 2:45 p.m. that four cars had been broken into at the park and purses had been stolen. Police said that the M.O. of the burglaries resemble that used by the nationwide Felony Lane Gang.
Suspected members of the gang were arrested by Darien police in September following a series of car burglaries at Cherry Lawn Park and the Darien YMCA. Police said the gang originates out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, but is known to frequent the area. The gang is active in every state along the east coast and frequently uses rental cars to target fitness centers, parking lots, parks and daycare centers where purses and other valuables are regularly left behind in cars, according to police.
Darien police said that dozens of similar incidents have occurred in surrounding towns in the last week and that fraudulent bank transactions have been made using victims' accounts, incurring thousands of dollars in losses.
The incidents are currently under investigation by the Darien Police Detective Division. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (203) 662-5330.
