The theft is believed to have occurred between the afternoon of Aug. 14 and the morning of Aug. 15.

The chamber was notified by the Darien Bank and Trust of some suspicious activity on one of their debit cards. The cards and an unknown amount of cash were in four bank deposit bags in the desk of a chamber employee. The bags also contained checks made out to the chamber, and may have had paperwork and PIN information for the cards.

An employee of the chamber told police that she locked the door to the office after leaving work, but believes that the lock may have been bypassed.

Police received information on Aug. 18 that one of the debit cards had been used in three transactions in Stamford. One was a $202 purchase at Fairlawn Variety, one was a $203 transaction at the Fairfield County Bank, and the third was a $65.89 purchase at a Shell gas station. Police have obtained photos from the transaction at Fairfield County Bank and are investigating.
