The incident began late Friday night, when Latrell Eppes, 22, of Sylvan Avenue, crashed his vehicle into two parked cars on Frenchtown Road, police said.
He fled on foot, but was located nearby on Lakeside Drive, police said.
Eppes tried to escape officers, but then stopped and prepared to fight, making threats that he would shoot the officers, police said.
After Eppes charged at the officers, he was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed, police said.
A loaded .40-caliber handgun was later found by a resident nearby, where it had been discarded in a garbage can, police.
The gun’s serial number had been filed off, police said.
Eppes was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and a high-capacity magazine, carrying a weapon without a permit and while under the influence, altering the identification number on a gun, threatening and interfering with an officer. Motor vehicle charges included reckless operation and evading responsibility.
He was held on a total $105,000 bond.
