DARIEN, Conn. — A man posing as a customer at a Darien glasses store made off with 10 frames worth about $5,000 last week.
An employee of Specs of Darien on Tokeneke Road said that at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday she was helping a customer when a man came into the store and started looking in the same stock drawer that the employee and customer were looking in, police said. The man said he was "waiting for his wife and needed to run outside," at which point the employee continued to tend to her initial customer.
After she finished helping the customer, the employee went to the area where the man had been and found that 10 pairs of eyeglass frames were missing from the display, according to police.
The man was described as white, in his late 40s, approximately 5-feet, 5 inches tall and heavyset. He was wearing a white knit cap. Police are investigating.
