DARIEN, Conn. – Darien police filed additional charges against a man who is accused of forging his mother’s checks to steal more than $25,000 and was being held in jail awaiting arraignment, police said.

The victim contacted police in January to report that her son had stolen checks from two of her bank accounts, dating to November 2013.

In total, Christopher Pinto, 42, of Stamford has been accused of writing 47 checks to cash or to his attorney with a combined value of $25,410, police said.

Pinto was arrested in January and charged with some of the forgeries, worth about $7,540. At the time, he was charged with fifth-degree larceny and six counts of third-degree forgery. He has not yet entered a plea for those counts, according to Connecticut judicial records.

After a continued investigation, Darien police filed for a warrant for Pinto’s arrest on charges of second-degree larceny and 41 counts of forgery. He was arrested on those charges Feb. 4, according to police reports. He was held on $25,000 bond and is due in court on Feb. 14.
