Darien Police Arrest Four On DUI Charges In One Week

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien Police made four arrests on drunk driving charges in a four-day span last week, according to police reports.

In the first incident police responded to a single-car accident on Leroy Avenue near Shadbush Lane at about 4:15 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21. An SUV had gone off the road and ran over a street sign before colliding with a tree, according to the police report.

Peter Conley, 24, of Leroy Avenue was found asleep behind the wheel of the SUV with the engine running, police said. Conley denied drinking that night, but he failed field sobriety tests at the scene, according to police reports. He was charged with driving under the influence and making an improper turn, and released on a $250 bond.

Also on the evening of Thursday, Nov,. 21, police were called to a two-car accident on the Post Road. Caitlin Leonetti, 28, of Post Road was driving a car that rear-ended another vehicle at a stop light near Brookside Road, according to police reports. Both cars had been stopped at a red light when Leonetti suddenly moved forward, into the rear bumper of the car in front of her, police said.

Leonetti failed field sobriety tests at the scene, and was given a breath test at Darien Police Headquarters, according to the arrest report. The test found that her blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit, police said. She was charged with driving under the influence and following too closely, and released on a $250 bond.

On Sunday, Nov. 24, an officer on patrol stopped a car on Post Road that had been driving without headlights at about 8:30 p.m. Kathleen White, 63, of Bridgeport had slurred speech as she talked with the officer, and failed field sobriety tests at the scene, police said. She was also unable to perform the breath test at police headquarters, according to the arrest report.

White was charged with a second-offense driving under the influence charge, and issued a ticket for failure to display lights. She was released on a $250 bond.

The final arrest of the week came on a warrant stemming from an incident on Sunday, Oct. 13. Paul Hendrick Jr., 24, of Stamford was pulled over that night by an officer doing radar-controlled speed checks on Post Road, according to police reports. Hendrick had been going 62 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone, police said.

Hendrick failed field sobriety tests after the traffic stop, according to the arrest report. He was taken to the hospital after vomiting multiple times in the police car and at the Darien police station that night, police said.

Darien Police released Hendrick at the time, and filed for a warrant for his arrest on a driving under the influence charge. He turned himself in Sunday, Nov. 24, after learning of the warrant, police said. He was later released on a $260 bond.
