Darien Police Department Promotes Three Members

DARIEN, Conn. -- Three members of the Darien Police Department have received promotions that will take effect this Sunday.

Lt. John P. Lawlor has been promoted to the rank of Captain. Lawlor is a 31-year veteran of the department. He was promoted to sergeant in 2000 and lieutenant in 2013, where he served as a supervisor in the Patrol and Training Divisions. He instituted the department’s Crisis Intervention Team and also the department’s Project Lifesaver program. 

Lawlor is a member of the School Safety Committee and is a long standing member of the department’s SCUBA team and the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team. He is a 2007 graduate of the Fairfield County Detective School and a 2014 graduate of Roger Williams University Mid-Level Police Management Program. 

Lawlor holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Iona College and a MSW from Fordham University. He is a licensed clinical social worker and volunteers in the marriage ministry at his church. Lawlor will be supervising the Field Services Bureau.

Sgt. Jeremiah P. Marron, Jr. has been promoted to Lieutenant. Marron is a 21-year veteran of the department. Graduating from the Connecticut Police Academy in 1996, Marron has been assigned to the Detective Division as a supervisor for the past three years. In June of 2006, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was assigned to the Patrol Division. 

Marron served on the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team (SWAT) for nine years and was a Field Training Officer for six years. He is the department’s Public Information Officer and currently is a member of the SCUBA Team serving as a rescue diver. Marron is also the Selective Enforcement Unit, K-9 Unit and Accident Investigation Team Supervisor.

Marron is a 2016 recipient of the United States Attorney’s Award and holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Sacred Heart University. In addition, he is a 2009 graduate of the Roger Williams University First Line Supervisor School, and a 2012 graduate of the University of New Haven Center For Advanced Policing, Innovation In Police Management Program. Marron will be assigned to the Patrol Division.

Det. Nicholas S. Aranzullo has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Aranzullo is a 12-year veteran of the department. Currently assigned to the Detective Division, he graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy in 2005. 

In 2008, Aranzullo and Marron spearheaded the initiative to form the Darien Police Department’s first K-9 Unit. In 2009, he was selected to be the department’s first K-9 handler. Aranzullo and his partner, K-9 Zulu worked in the Patrol Division where they were the recipients of numerous awards and commendations. 

K-9 Zulu was retired from service in October of 2016 at which time Aranzullo was reassigned to the Detective Division. Aranzullo is a graduate of Roger Williams University where he received a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. Aranzullo will be assigned to the Patrol Division.
