Victor Strong, 36; Anwar Carter, 34; Ernest Smith, 33; and Jisceton Cobb, 18, were each charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny and possession of burglar tools. Strong, Carter and Smith were held without bond and were in court June 5. Cobb was released on a promise to appear in court later in June.

Darien officers were on routine patrol at about 1 a.m. Thursday, June 4, when they said they saw three men sitting in a parked car behind a restaurant at 54 Post Road, police said. A fourth man was then seen emerging from a wooded area that borders the Land Rover dealership at 90 Post Road, police said.

An investigation determined the fourth man had cut an access hole in the dealership's fence and was attempting to steal three new Range Rovers valued in excess of $150,000, according to police. All four men were then taken into custody.

Police said Strong, Carter and Smith are all parolees with extensive criminal histories that include first-degree murder, robbery, escape, aggravated assault, weapons charges, assault on a police officer, auto theft and narcotics charges.

This is not the first incident at the dealership in the past year. In January, two Range Rovers valued at $140,000 were stolen, police said. In March, wheels were reported stolen, and in a separate incident a hole was found cut in the fence.

Police said these investigations are ongoing, and any agency needing further information should contact the Darien Police Detective Division at 203-662-5330.
