Darien Police ID Suspect In Car, Home Burglaries

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien police have identified a suspect in a recent string of car and home burglaries in town. The suspect, who is not being named at this point, is believed to have fled the area, police said.

A search warrant was executed at a home in Trumbull on Tuesday by the Darien Police Department's Detective Division. The Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team assisted the Trumbull Police Department. Evidence recovered in the search was determined to be from residential burglaries in Darien and Trumbull and from car burglaries in Darien, police said.

Darien detectives executed a search warrant of the suspect’s car last week and recovered proceeds from motor vehicle burglaries in Darien, Cheshire, North Haven and Meriden and a residential burglary in Wilton, police said.

The suspects are not part of a “gang from the Bronx,” N.Y., as some rumors indicated, police said. The current arrest warrant includes one count of second-degree burglary, one count of third-degree burglary, credit card theft and illegal use of credit card.

Additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues, said Lt. Ron Bussell of the Detective Division.

The 17 cars and two houses were broken into overnight between Sunday, June 17, and Monday, June 18. In all the cases, the cars had been left unlocked. A small amount of property was taken, police said. One credit card had been used in the Bronx.

Residents of a house broken into on Edgewood Road reported hearing their dog bark at 1:40 a.m. June 18. When family members checked the kitchen, they found the door open. A $1,300 laptop, two Gameboys and a purse containing credit cards were missing.

The second home burglary took place on Libby Lane. A resident was getting ready for work at 5:30 a.m. when he heard someone in the living room downstairs. When the resident checked, he found a door wide open. The car had also been broken into. Nothing appeared to have been taken from the house or car.
