DARIEN, Conn. — Darien police are still trying to identify the driver of the car that struck and injured a Darien High School student last week.

The 17-year-old girl, who was knocked to the ground, suffered scrapes and bruises when she was hit by the car at about 2:25 p.m. Friday on High School Lane, about 200 feet in from Middlesex Road, police said.

A line of traffic was stopped or moving very slowly in the westbound lane as is often the case at school dismissal time, police said.

As the girl crossed High School Lane, a car traveling westbound in the eastbound lane to pass the line of traffic, struck her and knocked her to the ground, police said.

The vehicle was reported to be a brown minivan, possibly a Honda, which was driven by a white female with blond hair, in her 40s, police said. A girl, possibly of middle school age, was seated in the front passenger seat, police said.

The driver stopped and asked the girl if she was OK, police said. "The pedestrian replied that she thought she was OK, and the minivan then continued on toward the high school," police said.

"The Police Department was notified of this collision once the pedestrian arrived home and an investigation then commenced," police said. "Thankfully, the injuries to the pedestrian were not severe."

The Darien Police Department has been actively investigating the incident since it was reported but have thus far been unable to identify the vehicle or driver involved. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any pertinent information is asked to contact the Darien Police Department at 203-662-5300.
