A woman came to Darien Police Headquarters on Nov. 29 and reported that her 18-year-old son had been sitting in the area of Norwalk Community College when he was approached by a male who asked about his banking institution. The suspect was described as a black male, wearing a backpack, blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a baseball hat, police said.

The suspect said he needed to cash checks for his financial aid, and eventually convinced the victim to assist him using his bank account, police said. The male drove the victim to the TD Bank at 55 Post Road. A second male was in the vehicle as well, police said.

The victim went to the ATM and deposited the checks with one of the males present, then withdrew $700 and handed it over to the suspect, according to police. The victim was then driven back to NCC.

Police said the victim reported he was never threatened or forced to do anything. It was later determined that the checks deposited were drawn on a closed account, according to police.

Police have obtained a picture that is believed to be of one of the suspects, and are asking for the public's help in identifying the person. One of the suspects may be driving a white newer model Chevrolet sedan, police said.
