DARIEN, Conn. – Darien police arrested a Subway employee Thursday who allegedly placed a spy camera in a unisex bathroom at the restaurant. During the investigation, the suspect, Marco Dias, 21, of Bridgeport was also discovered to be an illegal immigrant, police said.
Police received a complaint Wednesday that a camera had been placed in the bathroom in the restaurant on Heights Road. According to police reports, officers discovered the camera in the bathroom and found footage of three separate individuals who had been unknowingly captured on video.
The suspect who installed the camera was also captured on video and was subsequently identified as Dias, police said.
Because of the potential for further victims, the police investigation was expedited. A warrant was issued for his arrest Thursday, and he was arrested while at work. He was charged with three counts of voyeurism, which is a Class D felony, and held on $25,000 bond.
Dias was discovered to be an illegal immigrant during processing, according to police reports. Darien police contacted the U.S. Immigration Service, who placed a detainer on Dias, meaning that he is now being held indefinitely. Police said Dias has no prior criminal history.
While conducting a search of Dias’s residence Bridgeport, police found an additional spy camera and associated computer equipment. These items will be forensically examined, and the investigation will continue, police said.
