DARIEN, Conn. -- A travel restriction/partial road closure is in effect for Saturday in the area of Tokeneke School at Tokeneke and Old Farm roads due to the annual Pumpkin Fair, the Darien Police Department announced.
Between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Old Farm Road will be closed at Tokeneke Road to all incoming traffic. The road will be open for outgoing traffic only. All Tokeneke-area residents and guests are advised to enter the Tokeneke area through the alternate entrances of Arrowhead Way, Driftway Lane, or Five Mile River Road.
Ample off-street parking is available for those attending the fair at Colangelo Group at 120 Tokeneke Road or Zoto’s International at 100 Tokeneke Road. Some on-street parking also will be permitted on Tokeneke Road as posted.
As in the past, no parking is allowed on Old Farm Road. Additionally, there is no parking at any time on any private road of the Tokeneke Association. The Tokeneke Park Police will be patrolling the private roads of the Tokeneke Association to deter violations. .
The Darien Police Department will have officers assigned to the event to assist both motorists and pedestrians.
The rain date for the event is Oct. 6.
Road restrictions will also be in effect from noon to 3:30 p.m. Sunday for the sixth annual JR Schoen Memorial Walk, which begins at Pear Tree Point Beach. The walkers will make a left turn out of the beach parking lot and proceed north on Pear Tree Point Road, south on Long Neck Point Road, and return to the beach traveling west on Pear Tree Point Road.
Vehicle traffic will be allowed only to travel north on Long Neck Point Road and south on Pear Tree Point Road during this event. Motorists are advised to expect short-term delays along the route. Officers will be positioned along the route to facilitate the flow of traffic and the safety of the participants.
