The 27-year-old was sitting in a car in the driveway of the family's Hillside Avenue home about 4:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7. The resident was smoking a cigarette when he noticed that the interior light of his mother's car next to him was on, police said.

He told police that he could see someone rummaging through the driver's side of the car.

The man got out of his car and yelled at the stranger, who was described as a black man between 18 and 22 years old, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark shorts, according to police reports.

The suspect then got out of the car and ran down the driveway. He got into an older-model hatchback that was parked at the end of the driveway and drove away. Police canvassed the area but were unable to find the vehicle. Nothing was taken from the car that was broken into.
