Darien Selectman Put Police Body Camera Program On Hold

DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Board of Selectmen have turned down a request for funding to buy body cameras for the town’s police officers, according to the Darien Times.

The Darien Board of Selectmen has turned down a request by police Chief Duane Lovello for body cameras for officers, citing the cost of storing video tapes, as well as a desire to see how the technology pans out for other law enforcement agencies.

As issues of racism and police brutality continue to grip the nation, more and more law enforcement agencies are using body cameras, the Darien Times said.

The board cited video storage costs and a desire to see how the technology progresses as reasons for waiting at least a year to adopt the body camera program, the Darien Times story said.
