DARIEN, Conn. — A teen with marijuana in his car ran into the woods when police caught him in a Darien park one night last week, according to police.
At around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, an officer on patrol saw a black SUV parked in the entrance to Woodland Park on Middlesex Road. Given the time of day and the face that the park closes at dusk the officer pulled in to the park to tell the driver that the park was closed, police said. As he pulled in, he saw a lone male get out of the driver's seat of the SUV and run into the woods, police said.
The officer checked the car and found that nobody else was in it. From outside, he could see a silver canister, an "herbal grinder" and a pack of rolling papers, police said. Officers contacted the registered owner of the SUV, who informed them that their teenage son had the car, according to police. The parents called their son on his cell phone, and he returned to the scene to speak with the officers, police said.
Police conducted a search of the car, and in addition to the other items, they also found marijuana in the grinder, marijuana in the silver canister, a one-hitter smoking pipe, and two electronic cigarette devices, police said. The teen was released to the custody of his parents, and advised that the case would be referred to the Youth Division, police said.
