The woman had put an ad on Craigslist to sell the couch for $300. She was contacted by another woman who identified herself as "Hannah Palma" who said she was interested in buying the couch, and was willing to pay $30 extra if the owner would hold it for her, according to police reports.

"Palma" sent the victim a cashier's check for $900 and told her to keep $330 of it and wire the rest to a mover who would pick up the couch, police said. The woman wired the $570 to the mover before the check cleared, and was later informed that the check was invalid, according to police.

The return address for the check was from a Honolulu address, and that the phone number "Palma" had used was based in Dallas, police said. The case is currently under police investigation.
