Darien Woman's Car Stolen After Keys Taken From Daughter's Car

DARIEN, Conn. -- A Darien woman's car was stolen Saturday night after the keys were taken from her daughter's car, police said.

The Noroton Avenue resident told police that she had parked her white 2013 Honda CRV at 5 p.m. Saturday and had last seen it at 9 p.m. while walking her dog. She noticed it missing at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The woman told police that she had left the car locked, and that two of the three sets of keys were accounted for. But the third set of keys had been in her daughter's car, which had been parked at the same residence Saturday night, police said.

Officers determined that the daughter's car, a 1990 Mazda Miata, had been burglarized overnight, police said. The driver's side door to the Miata was open Sunday morning and the interior had been rummaged through, police said. The daughter told police that she had locked the door. The only thing missing was the set of keys for the CRV, which had been left in the center console, police said.

An old cellphone and the owner's wallet, which contained her license, credit cars, and $8 in cash, were also in the CRV when it was stolen, police said. The cards had not been used, and the resident is checking with the phone company to see if the phone had been used.

She told police that she had heard a beep from a car at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, which may have been her car. The Detective Division is investigating the incident.
