Driver Who Left Scene Of New Canaan Crash Found At Home, Police Say

A New Canaan man was busted at home after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run crash while “driving erratically,” police said.

Officers from the New Canaan Police Department were dispatched near the intersection of East Avenue and New Norwalk Road at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Friday, July 13, where there was a report of a vehicle being operated erratically that has struck another and took off.

Police said that drivers in the area were able to provide officers with a point of direction and a registration, which led them to John Crumpton Stomber, 64. The officers responded to Stromber’s residence, where he was arrested and taken to New Canaan Police Headquarters.

Stromber was cited for following to closely and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. Following processing, Stromber was released on $250 bail and he is due in court on July 24 to answer the charges.
