DARIEN, Conn. – Two purses, including one containing a $45,000 diamond ring, were reported stolen in a pair of car break-ins in Darien last week, according to police reports.

The first case was reported at the Darien Ice Rink on Dec. 10. A driver’s side window was shattered on a car parked in the rink’s lot sometime between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. that afternoon, according to the police report. A purse containing a wallet with a small amount of cash and an iPad mini valued at $400 were taken from the car.

The purse was found in the parking lot of Duchess on Post Road two days later, with the cash and iPad missing. The recovered purse also had a wallet and identification that had been reported stolen in another car break-in in Wilton on Tuesday, police said.

The second incident in Darien occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 11. A woman told police that she had left her purse in her car while the vehicle was parked at a  Contentment Island Road home and IN a municipal lot on Post Road that afternoon. The car had been unlocked at the private home, but locked in the public lot, according to the owner’s report.

After leaving the municipal lot the driver noticed that her Fendi purse was missing from the car. The purse contained approximately $250 in cash and a two-carat diamond ring valued at approximately $45,000, according to the police report.

It is not clear if the two incidents are related. Both cases are still under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Darien Police at 203-662-5300.
