Lock Your Doors: Spree Of Car Break-Ins Continues In Darien

DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Police Department is urging all residents to lock their vehicles at all times in light of recent burglaries and thefts.

The recent string of thefts and burglaries all had one common trait: all of the vehicles were left unlocked, and, in the case of the vehicle thefts, the keys were left in the cars.

Darien Police responded to the following reports:

April 5

  • 28 Shield Rd. A black leather wallet (value $110.00) containing $70 cash, Operator’s license, 3 credit cards. Keys and key ring valued at $70. The residents also had their 2017 BMW X3 stolen from the driveway. It was later recovered .
  • 44 Shield Rd. Neighbor reported hearing car doors open and close but nothing was taken.
  • 12 Kona Rd.  $20 in cash from glove box.
  • 7 Kona Rd. Center console had been rifled through, but nothing was taken.
  • 15 Libby Ln. The center console had been rifled through with items strewn on the passenger seat. Nothing was reported missing from the vehicle.
  • 41 Wakemore St. Beats brand headphone valued at $500 and a book bag with personal papers. The book was later recovered on the property along with its contents.

April 8

  • 18 Roland Dr. iPhone was taken from one vehicle. Two others were entered into with nothing stolen.

Officers are also reminding residents to take valuables out of vehicles and to lock them no matter where they are parked.
