Man Accused Of Theft From Darien Alzheimer's Patients

DARIEN, Conn. - A Norwalk man was charged in the theft of a credit card from an elderly Darien couple who both suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.

Police received a complaint from relatives of the couple, saying that the card had been used to pay cell phone bills and make ATM withdrawals. Between October 2011 and May 2012 somebody had made nine cell phone payments totaling $1,182.84 and 36 ATM withdrawals totaling $7,020, police said.

One of the two caregivers working for the couple identified her nephew, Abraham Kishumbua, 21, in a bank photo depicting one of the fraudulent transactions, police said. When police confronted Kishumbua he admitted to taking the credit card while visiting his aunt at the couple’s home, according to police.

He was charged with third-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, illegal use of credit card and theft of credit card. He turned himself in on a warrant and was released on a promise to appear in court Tuesday.
