DARIEN, Conn. - A Stamford man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a Christmas Eve car crash that knocked out power to 600 Darien homes.
Russell Pinto, 45, turned himself in to Darien police on Feb. 11 after being advised of a warrant for his arrest. He posted $250 bond and will appear in court Feb. 21.
Pinto was driving his Toyota Highlander on Post Road near Gardiner Street on Dec. 24 when it went off the road and hit a utility pole, according to police reports. The pole snapped in half and blocked three lanes of traffic on Post Road, causing 600 Connecticut Light & Power customers to lose power for several hours.
Pinto was taken to Stamford Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police issued a warrant for his medical records and discovered that his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit, according to police reports.
