A man who exposed himself to a Stamford librarian has been arrested after being spotted by an alert off-duty police officer, according to Stamford Police.

Javon Bragg, 23, of Pittston, Pennsylvania, was charged with public indecency after being arrested around 7 p.m. Monday, said Sgt. Paul Guzda.

The incident took place on Thursday, Feb. 15, when Bragg walked into the Weed Memorial Library and asked a librarian about getting a library card. When he couldn't provide any information, the librarian refused, police said.

The man then asked where the James Patterson murder books were located and when the librarian went to answer he had his pants down and his genitals exposed, police said.

She told him to leave, and he left the library.

Although video cameras at the library were not working, the librarian was able to provide a good description and area street cameras picked up on him, said Guzda.

Guzda said the woman was shown the image and identified him as the suspect. The image was then printed and given to all police officers to be on the lookout for, he added.

Detectives also spoke with shop owners in the area who confirmed they had seen Bragg in the area.

On Monday, Officer Tim Inverno spotted a man who looked like the image in the Weed Hill Road area and alerted on-duty officers.

"He stayed on sight and watched him until our on-duty officers could arrive and arrest him," Guzda.

Following his arrest, he was positively identified by the librarian, he added.
