DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Police Department welcomed the newest member to its ranks, when Officer Burr "BJ" Allen was sworn in this week.

Allen comes to the Darien Police Department after spending a year-and-a-half with the New Haven Police Department. Prior to his career in law enforcement, Allen was a psychiatric technician at Stamford Hospital.

Allen grew up in New Canaan, graduating high school at the Berkshire School in Massachusetts. He attended Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Penn., where he was on both the football and lacrosse teams.

He was sworn in at a meeting of the Darien Police Commission on Wednesday. When asked about transitioning from New Haven to Darien, he said, "I'm really excited about working in a small town similar to the one I grew up in."

Allen lives in Westport with his girlfriend of five years, and enjoys staying active and being involved in sports.
