Applicants must be at least 21 year of age and have a minimum of 60 college credits or two years of military service. Prior police experience will be evaluated on a case by case basis; however certified officers must participate in the full Entry Level testing process. A valid CHIP card and a minimum passing score of 75 percent on the CPCA Entry Level Written Exam are required prior to applying. 

Potential candidates will be required to complete and successfully pass a written examination, physical agility test, peer interview, polygraph examination, oral interview(s), psychological evaluation, medical examination and a thorough background investigation. A competitive wage and benefits package will be offered in accordance with the current labor contract.

Benefits include a salary between $61,303 and $85,595, along with an extra duty rate of $70 per hour, a defined benefit pension and medical, dental and life insurance. Other benefits are up to 24 days of paid vacation per year, 12 paid holidays, evening and night shift differential, college tuition reimbursement, uniform and equipment purchase allowance, and uniform cleaning allowance.

Applicants can be disqualified for having felony convictions, convictions of a Class A or Class B misdemeanor, conviction of any act that would constitute perjury or false statement, or conviction for any domestic violence related misdemeanor crime. Applicants cannot have been dismissed from any law enforcement unit for malfeasance or other serious misconduct, or have resigned from any law enforcement position while under investigation for malfeasance or misconduct.
