DARIEN, Conn. A Norwalk man was arrested for allegedly posing as his brother while trying to open a bank account in Darien. Eric Christian, 28, was charged with identity theft and second-degree forgery, according to Darien police.
The arrest stems from an incident in January, police said, when an employee of the Bank of Darien reported that a man tried to open an account under the name "Thomas Christian." The bank received an alert that Thomas Christian had been the victim of identity theft, and that since late December there had been 10 attempts to open accounts under that name in banks throughout the region. The employee refused to open the account, and the man left the bank.
Police said an investigation determined that the person claiming to be Thomas Christian was actually his brother, Eric. Police said he has a prior arrest record that includes criminal impersonation, identity theft, violation of probation and larceny. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was picked up at the Bridgeport Correctional Facility, where he was being held on an unrelated matter. He posted a $50,000 bond and will appear in court on July 31.

A car was reported stolen from Koon's parking lot on West Avenue. The 2012 Toyota Sienna was a rental vehicle that had been parked in the lot at around 5 p.m. on Friday, July 13. The car was unlocked and the keys were in the center console. At 8:30 a.m. on July 16, the car was discovered to be missing. The vehicle is valued at $28,000.
