NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk has shut down a spa on Main Street after it was raided in March in a prostitution sting for the 10th time since 2007, according to the Hour.

The Emerald Spa at 118 Main St., which was formerly known as the Nirvana Spa, was raided on March 23 in a prostitution sting that led to one woman being arrested. This was the spa's 10th such raid in the last 10 years and the third in the past 20 months, the Hour reported.

The city had previously suspended the spa's license following a bust in July, but after the most recent raid the Norwalk Board of Health revoked the business's license permanently, according to the Hour. Health officials cited the City Code, which allows the city to shut down a massage parlor if the permittee or employees is convicted of sexual misconduct, the Hour reported.

Police told the Hour that the massage parlor did not conduct any actual massage services, and instead was only used as a place of prostitution. Police continually received information that prostitution was being conducted at the parlor, the Hour reported. The owner did not appear at a hearing that the Board of Health had scheduled on the matter, according to the Hour.
