An officer on patrol witnessed one shop owner chasing a man down Post Road near Wells Fargo bank Friday at about 5 p.m., police said. The owner of Darien News Store on Tokeneke Road told the officer that the suspect had paid for a $10 ice scraper with a $100 bill that the owner later learned was counterfeit, according to the police report.
Olivette, Chunky Pam’s and Beadz Boutique also reported receiving counterfeit $100 bills that afternoon, police said. The suspects also attempted to use a bill at Grieb’s Pharmacy but were denied, police said.
One suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a medium build, and wearing a knit cap, a dark jacket and blue jeans. The other was described as a Hispanic female, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall with a thin build, and wearing a dark jacket and a tan scarf.
Police were reviewing video surveillance tapes from the stores. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Darien Police at 203-662-5300.
