DARIEN, Conn. — A 26-year-old Darien man smashed his sister's TV — and showed her via a text message — after they argued by text over who would pick up their mother from work, police said.

The victim went to Darien police headquarters on June 30, the day of the dispute, to file a complaint.

At the time of the dispute, the victim told police she was not at their shared home on Allen O’Neil Drive.

She showed an officer a text from the end of the argument with her brother that said, “Looks like you’re getting a new TV then,” followed by a picture of a TV with a broken screen.

The victim told police the TV is kept in her bedroom and that her brother broke it in response to their argument.

Officers went to the apartment in attempt to contact the brother, Ardian Paloka, police said. There, they met the mother of the victim and suspect.

She corroborated the story, saying that she had bought the TV for the victim several years ago and was aware that her son had damaged it, police said.

Paloka was not at home and she was unable to reach him by phone, police said.

About an hour after officers left the apartment, Paloka went to headquarters after speaking with his mother and admitted that he broke his sister's TV in anger after their argument, police said.

Paloka was issued a misdemeanor summons on charges of disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief.

He was released on a promise to appear for a July 3 appearance in Stamford Superior Court.

He was advised not to have any contact with the victim and not to return to the home.
