Police: Darien Man Arrested With A Pound Of Pot In His Car

DARIEN, Conn. -- A Darien man was arrested on Friday, Oct. 10, after police accused him of having more than a pound of marijuana in his car.

Loughlin Harris, 22, was charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted $15,000 bond and will appear in court Oct. 20.

On Friday at 7:13 p.m. an officer observed Harris get off I-95 South at Exit 11 and make an abrupt turn into the Whole Foods parking lot without signaling, according to police reports. The officer stopped Harris in the parking lot and detected the odor of marijuana inside the vehicle, police said.

Harris was asked to get out of the car, and officers observed two packs of rolling papers on the floor of the car, police said. When told that a K9 unit would be conducting a free air sniff of the vehicle, Harris admitted to police that he had a small amount of marijuana in a sandwich bag in his pocket, according to police. He told the officer that he didn't have any other marijuana in the car, police said.

The K9 officer Zulu was brought in to search the car, and located plastic bags containing marijuana in the passenger side door, as well as behind the front passenger seat and in the center console, police said.

The total amount of marijuana found was 1.125 pounds, according to police. Police also found a blue and white glass pipe with marijuana residue, several blunt roaches and a bank receipt for $1,000, according to police reports. Harris was then taken into custody.
