DARIEN, Conn. — Smash-and-grab robbers who struck a Lexus in the parking lot of the YMCA of Darien made off with a briefcase, an umbrella and an iPad Air, police said.

The total value of the missing items, which included a wallet, credit cards and identification in the briefcase, was estimated at $1,400, police said.

Police were called Friday, Aug. 4, at 4:28 p.m., by the car's owner. He told police he had parked his 2012 Lexus at 3:05 p.m. in the east side of the lot at the YMCA at 2520 Post Road.

The rear passenger window had been smashed and the items were gone, police said.

Surveillance video obtained from the YMCA showed two suspects exiting a dark-colored Honda Odyssey with Florida plates at 4:07 p.m., police said.

The two suspects were described as black males, one wearing a gray hoodie, black shorts and black sneakers, and the other wearing a green shirt, police said.

The iPad — with significant damage — was later recovered by Darien officers after it was thrown on the I-95 northbound ramp for Exit 13 by the perpetrator(s).

No other vehicles in the parking lot were damaged or entered, police said.

The Darien Police Detective Division is continuing the investigation.
